Intermodel uncertainty in response of the Pacific Walker circulation to global warming

چکیده

The Pacific Walker circulation (PWC) is one of the major atmospheric circulations that plays an essential role in ocean-atmosphere interactions and global climate. response PWC to greenhouse warming remains a mystery model results are inconsistent. Based on multimodel simulations from Coupled Model Intercomparison Project phase 6 (CMIP6), this study explores intermodel uncertainty change under warming. combination El Niño-like pattern interbasin contrast between Indian Oceans strengthens (weakens) west (east) branch trade winds, resulting structural shifting PWC. By conducting set Atmosphere General Circulation (AGCM) experiments, we demonstrate western critical driving shift. An intensified counteracts effect Ocean PWC, leading uniformly weakened tropical due SST gradient. In contrast, decreased turning longitude zonal wind changes eastward. Our finding highlights relative coupled with warmer

Climate Response of the Equatorial Pacific to Global Warming

The climate response of the equatorial Pacific to increased greenhouse gases is investigated using numerical experiments from 11 climate models participating in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Fourth Assessment Report. Multimodel mean climate responses to CO2 doubling are identified and related to changes in the heat budget of the surface layer. Weaker ocean surface currents dri...

Southern Hemisphere Atmospheric Circulation Response to Global Warming

The response of the Southern Hemisphere (SH), extratropical, atmospheric general circulation to transient, anthropogenic, greenhouse warming is investigated in a coupled climate model. The extratropical circulation response consists of a SH summer half-year poleward shift of the westerly jet and a year-round positive wind anomaly in the stratosphere and the tropical upper troposphere. Along wit...

Monitoring the impact of global warming on wheat cultivation in the Mughan Plain (Germi) Using the atmospheric circulation model

Global warming and temperature rise will have many effects on different sectors, including agriculture, the warming of the earth will increase the rate of evaporation, and consequently the increase in the demand for agricultural products will increase. In this study, in order to monitor the effect of global warming on Mughan Plain wheat, using the LARS-WG model as a relatively inexpensive and a...

Tropical Pacific Climate and Its Response to Global Warming in the Kiel Climate Model

A new, non-flux-corrected, global climate model is introduced, the Kiel Climate Model (KCM), which will be used to study internal climate variability from interannual to millennial time scales and climate predictability of the first and second kind. The version described here is a coarse-resolution version that will be employed in extended-range integrations of several millennia. KCM’s performa...
